Seasteaders will have many options available for how they can govern their community. As Patri Friedman once stated, "Every year our cars get safer, our phones smarter, and our medical treatments more advanced. So why is it that here in one of the most advanced countries in the world, we're still using the legal technology of 1787?".

One of the most important advantages that seasteaders will have over their terran counterparts, is the opportunity to start an entirely new government. But with this tremendous opportunity is also the possibility of great peril. There are many forms of government [1]. On this page we will list those which have potential for providing a healthy modern political environment at sea, and examine the advantages and disadvantages of each.
