Intellectual Property law is something seasteaders should be aware of.

Trademarks

Don't use someone else's name for your stuff.

Copyrights

Don't copy someone else's written work.

Patents

Patents are ways of saying who has the rights to an idea. It is possible for the same idea to be owned by different people in different countries. There are international agreements about patents. Of most interest to seasteaders is that a foreign owned ship that is passing through a country is never in violation of the patent laws in that country. More on Patents on their own page.
