The world's first OTEC pilot plant was situated in Nauru.

Part one: assembly and launch of the 1/2 mile OTEC cold water pipe (CWP). Part tho: the CWP is towed across the open ocean to the OTEC platform, moored 12 miles off the Kona Coast. The intake end is slowly lowered down into the abyss by tug-boat control, until it becomes verticle almost 1/2 mile down, and then transferred delicately to the ship.
