The high expected stability and long-term location holding of seasteads make them suitable for housing a number of oceanic research projects, such as thermal oceanic variation survey, for which boats and even submarines are impractical.
In addition they may provide the supplies and facilities required for permanent and semi-permanent research staff: rooms, transportation and other infrastructure of the seasteads could be rented out to research institutes.
